Green Business Innovator of the Year 2012

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Balfour Beatty Energy Solutions, LLC (BB Energy), a subsidiary of Balfour Beatty Capital Group, Inc., is pleased to announce that division president Tabitha Crawford was recently named as the Southeast Regional Green Business Innovator of the Year by Lipscomb University’s Institute for Sustainable Practice at the second annual Green Business Leadership Awards in Nashville, TN.

The Southeast Regional Green Business Innovator of the Year award recognizes an individual or business for green technological or design innovation that altered the comprehensive landscape of its respective market with a radical new sustainable product or service. The winner is selected for defining the highest levels of excellence in sustainability leadership in 2010.

Tabitha Crawford was recognized at Lipscomb’s annual Green Business Summit for her work on renewable energy and conservation programs which inspired change and achieved accelerated adoption in 2010. Notably, Ms. Crawford led the development and funding efforts of a resident behavior program in the family housing community at Travis Air Force Base in California. The highly successful program produced an 18% reduction in energy usage through a focus on energy conservation through coaching.

Ms. Crawford’s efforts to advance sustainability and energy innovation include the publication of multiple articles and papers. “The Three-Legged Stool of Energy Savings,” co-authored with Richard Lucy, was included in AEE’s Encyclopedia for R&D, and additional joint articles appeared in Urban Land magazine. Ms. Crawford authored the cover story for the January 2011 issue of Defense Communities magazine, discussing how to make sustainability programs “tangible” by quantifying energy savings. She has also spoken and written about “The New Energy Economy” to influence legislators to focus on conservation and clean energy.

The Green Business Leadership Awards recognize businesses, organizations, individuals and institutions demonstrating exceptional leadership of sustainable business practices resulting in significant impact and improvement to the area of focus. Winners were chosen by a committee of five business and non-profit representatives from a statewide sustainable business roundtable.
